Spaces in fields

Hi again,

i noticed your app does not truncate spaces from the data in the fields. You know it is critical that all spaces to the left or right of the fields entered are properly truncated.

I took me a while to find out why my scripts keep erroring out.

My specific problem was with the DB fields, somehow a space landed behind a server name, and i ended up with an error telling me the DB was allready there when in fact the SQL was clean but it was because of the space behind the server.

Introduce a function to truncate spaces to the right and left of all fields and recheck that all of them are handled by this.

Also check how your application handles the writing on read only files it says it saved but it does not save over readonly files, or at least some fileds are not saved.

Another thing if you can get it as a criteria the the Search Admin Component is installed on the first machine in the farm as a condition. So the Hostname of that field has to be the hostname of the first machine going up in the farm.

Thank you!

Finally some good feedback :)

1: Field truncation: this should be simple, ill add this in the next release

2: Saving issue: Ill add more error handling on the save process in the next release

3: Search Admin component: This part is mostly likely out of my control. Ill think about it some more

Hey,

1: The field truncation issue has been resolved in the latest update.

2: I cant replicate the read-only file issue. I get warned if its a readonly file.

3: Search Admin Component: This is out of my control, you can try posting on the AutoSPInstaller codeplex page.

The it means you are not updating all the fields on save. I'm sure you have a check if a feature is activated or not and then update the fields related to it. Your program would still read the data from the xml but it would not save it until you activate the feature. In particular what it would not save was the DB Server Field in the WebApplications tab.

EDIT: i just checked it again, it does not save it. I don't think you save that field at all you just read it.

The web application settings will not saved until the Update button is pressed. Can you try to replicate this issue and please post the steps?

Yes you are right it does save it now although it seems to not let me update it when i have Add URL To Local Intranet Zone. It just unticks the checkbox and refreshes the window.

Do you think you can make these more intuitve.

In the latest version I have changed "update" to "save". I have also fixed the bug with the Add URL to Local Intranet Zone. Thank you for reporting that.

Ill look into making this process more intuitive.
